Shallows is an independent studio made up of self-employed artists working across tattooing, hair, nails, lashes, brows, tooth gems and beauty.
Artists here run their own businesses, set their own rates, and take responsibility for their work — within a shared space that operates to boost growth and level up.
The studio is open long hours. We attract walk-ins. We host events and collaborations. We actively build footfall and visibility so the space stays busy, relevant, and moving.
This is a place for artists who want consistency, momentum, and room to grow — without giving up their independence.
Why Shallows Is Different
At Shallows, we take a deliberate approach to growth.
We invest intentionally in visibility and planning — including SEO, web presence, content, events, and studio-led marketing; so the studio continues to grow year on year.
That same intention runs through the space itself; Shallows is designed to feel distinctive and alternative – not generic.

WHO WE WORK WITH
We work with independent artists across tattooing, hair, nails, and beauty.
We’re interested in people who already have a body of work, a sense of direction, and a professional approach to their practice — whether established or actively levelling up.
AVAILABILITY
Spaces at Shallows open up occasionally, not constantly. We don’t recruit on a rolling basis or fill gaps in a rush.
Applications are reviewed when availability exists, or kept on file until it does.
To us, fit matters more than timing.
WHAT WE EXPECT
We expect people to show up properly and with passion – for their clients, their work and the shared space.
That means clear communication, reliable professionalism, and an understanding that shared standards don’t maintain themselves.
This works because everyone takes responsibility for the space they benefit from.
Standards here are assumed, not optional and it means we can continue to do amazing work and support each other.

WHAT YOU ACTUALLY GET
THE SPACE
A fully equipped, working studio in central Manchester.
Options include salon chairs, tech desks, or tattoo beds, depending on availability and fit.
The space is client-facing, visually distinctive, and built for real daily use — not a generic rental setup.
THE HOURS
Open from early morning through late evening, with flexibility to work around your life.
This isn’t a 10–6 salon with the lights switched off at closing time, and we do this to support momentum and give good artists the platform they deserve.
THE FOOTFALL
Shallows is busy – with walk-ins, events, collaborations, and a steady flow of new eyes on the space.
We actively promote the studio as a destination, not just a collection of individual artists.

THE CULTURE
This is a professional working environment – not a drama club. People here respect time, boundaries, and standards.
The atmosphere is fun, grounded, and intentional, without corporate polish or hierarchy.
